Law Enforcement Mounting Solutions for Mobile Printers

Frequently Asked Questions

What products do you offer?
We offer essentially two products: a headrest printer mount for mobile printers and a console printer mount when the headrest mounting option is not available.

How did you come up with the headrest option?
Our company owners include former law enforcement officers who were at the forefront of mobile technology, including the use of mobile data terminals or laptops for electronic traffic ticketing. When the state law required that offenders receive a printed copy of an electronic citation, naturally an in-car printer was required. The question then became: where do you put the printer so that it is secure and not interfering with other equipment in the car? After study and trial and error, these officers determined that the passenger seat headrest was the perfect place, and proceeded to design their invention. We were the first company in the country to produce and market the headrest printer mount.

Is the headrest mount patented?
We are proud to announce that the United States Patent and Trademark Office recently issued Letters Patent No. 7,637,566 for our headrest printer mount.  Our original application was file on January 2, 2004, which means that our patent rights emanate from that date.

Does your printer mount replace the headrest?
Yes and No. It does replace the passenger seat headrest, but NO PASSENGER SHOULD BE RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT WHEN THE HEADREST PRINTER MOUNT IS INSTALLED. Why? Because our headrest printer mount is not intended to be a headrest; and obviously does not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for seat headrests. In fact, we use a CAUTION label on our mount stating that no passenger should be in the seat when the mount is installed.

What if there is a front seat passenger?
The mount should be removed and replaced with the vehicle manufacturer's headrest whenever a passenger is present in the front seat. Our printer mount is easily removed, stays attached to the printer and has foldable legs, so this is a workable option. If front seat passengers are present most of the time, this may be inconvenient. Thus, we also offer a center console mounting option for the printer between the two front seats. The console mount can be mounted to the side or rear of the console for the printer to ride above the console. This mount is adjustable up and down, side to side and front to rear to accommodate the other equipment in the console or the preferences of the driver.

Is your console printer mount convertible to a headrest printer mount?
Easily. We'll be happy to provide you the hardware to convert it.

I've seen a headrest mount for the Brother / Pentax Pocketjet Printer that purports to serve as an actual headrest also. Shouldn't I consider that mount if we have front seat passengers?
Only at your own risk. The question you will need to ask is whether the combined headrest and printer mount meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for passenger seat headrests. If it does not, would you want this potential liability for serious head injury in a collision?

Which printers do your mounts accommodate?
We have found that most law enforcement agencies use the HP470 DeskJet Mobile Printers (and their predecessor models), the Brother / Pentax Pocket Jet printers and the Canon i90 and Cannon iP100 printers. Our mounts are specifically and individually sized and designed for each of those printers. As other printers with different specifications come into use, we intend to offer additional models.

How can I find out more about your mounts?
Pick up the phone and give us a call. We'll be happy to put you in touch with agencies nationwide who have purchased and are using our mounts.

How would I purchase your printer mounts?
Most of our sales are direct to law enforcement agencies. Collections from law enforcement agencies are typically not a problem, so we generally will ship on a municipal PO# (or email authorization in many cases) and invoice the agency upon shipping. If you are an installer or reseller, contact us and we will be glad to work with you.
